Dr Rainer Pflaum is, since 2010, a member of the Management Board and CFO of TransnetBW GmbH, the electricity transmission system operator in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. His portfolio within TransnetBW includes the areas of Finance & Governance, Economic Grid Management and Human Resources. After holding various management positions in the banking sector and in the energy industry, he now directs his network management focus mainly to issues relating to the future significance of the electricity transmission grid in a generation environment characterized primarily by renewable energies and the influence of increasing digitalization. Under his responsibility, TransnetBW entered into a joint venture with MHP Consulting in 2021, with the aim to offer innovative services by in the context of the energy and mobility transition. To this end, TransnetBW has created its own brand, “IE2S – Intelligent Energy System Services.”

Rainer is involved in various committees in the energy industry, including: member of the Management Board of TSCNET GmbH Munich, member of the Executive Board of the Baden-Württemberg Association for the Energy Industry (VfEW), and member of the Executive Board of the Institute for Energy and Regulatory Law. Since 2021, he is also Managing Director of Flexcess GmbH, which was established in collaboration with TenneT and through which TransnetBW holds a stake in Equigy B. V., a company supported by various European transmission system operators with the aim of making small-scale and load-side flexibility usable for the grid.

Rainer holds a degree in business administration a doctorate in economics.
