Power of the Many: Towards a citizens’ driven energy transition through fractional ownership of solar parks
The 2Tokens Foundation is leading an initiative to transform energy systems through Programmable Energy, concentrating on citizen-generated electricity that leverages digital technologies and managed through decentralized autonomous methods. This forward-thinking strategy enhances the adoption of renewable energy and encourages sustainable practices by enabling individuals to generate and monetize their own energy. Backed by the European Fund for Regional Development, along with academic and financial institutions, and industry partners, 2Tokens functions as a non-profit organization within the European DLT Regulatory Sandbox.
In their latest study, 2Tokens examines how tokenization promotes energy sharing, with dynamic consumption and peer-to-peer distribution optimizing energy use, reducing costs, and improving security under transparent governance. Despite regulatory challenges and the need for advanced community tools, the report highlights how decentralized governance structures empower communities and encourage sustainability, aiding the shift towards a decentralized, equitable energy future. The study includes implementation cases across Europe, from Ameland to Sardinia.
