DriVe2X is a transformative project that addresses the synergies between advanced electric transportation systems and the power distribution grid. The project is advancing new knowledge, tools, and technologies that enable the realization of "vehicle-to-everything" based on bidirectional EV charging, and that will be key to cope with the mass EV deployment in Europe expected for 2050. Regarding scope, there are 4 key areas of ambition the project contributes to: 1) ELECTRICITY MARKETS, supporting design of novel markets for trading of flexibility from V2G and creating new market tools to support it; 2) CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE, developing new single-phase and three-phase DC charging technologies that are more efficient and user friendly compared to baseline; 3) HUMAN DIMENSION, investigating the determinant factors of V2X user perceptions and experiences and considering them in the development of project solutions; and 4) UPSCALING, developing policty reference frameworks and recommendations to support roll-out of V2X in European smart cities. DriVe2X is implementing 8 groundbreaking demonstrations in 5 countries, which study the benefits and impacts of V2X for the energy management of homes and buildings, as well as for power-based and load balancing support of distribution networks, in context of individual and fleet-based EV uses. Through its innovations, DriVe2X supports the strategic increase of renewable energy in the European generation mix, as well as the linked promotion of smart flexible energy systems.
